FAQ
How do we determine our fair market value? How do we calculate the value of our NIL/revenue share?
Fair market value is determined by the amount of money that certain schools typically allocate for each position. The value of your NIL/revenue share depends on various factors, including your status as a student-athlete, your position, the evaluation of your team, the needs of the school, and whether you’re a high school or transfer student-athlete. Having access to a resource that provides information on the salaries paid to student-athletes and how colleges manage their budgets is crucial.
How can we verify the legitimacy of an offer from a school?
We communicate with the appropriate individuals, such as a General Manager, Director of NIL, head coach, or athletic administrator. It’s important to note that position coaches or personnel staff may not have the authority to make decisions and may provide information solely to encourage commitment. Therefore, it’s advisable to have experts manage these conversations, such as us.
What is the typical process for receiving payments?
Payments for NIL contracts are scheduled to be made on the dates specified in the contract. However, there may be cases where the first payment is delayed due to the timing of initial enrollment or the signing of the contract by both parties. It’s essential to thoroughly review and communicate with your representation to understand the terms of the contract.
What should we be aware of regarding taxes?
Currently, NIL contracts are considered independent contractor contracts. This means that you will receive a 1099 form. Since your taxes are not withheld, it’s crucial to be aware that you will be responsible for paying taxes at the end of the year. Therefore, it’s advisable to account for this when receiving payments. Avoid overspending your money. Consider seeking advice from a financial advisor to assist you with these matters.
